Campus vision to create 5,000 jobs

A joint venture company that will help to create 5,000 jobs at the Harwell Campus is moving into a new home.

International property group Goodman, the UK Atomic Energy Authority and the Science and Technology Facilities Council announced a joint venture last year to establish the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus as one of the world’s principal locations for scientific, academic and business collaboration.

The joint venture will develop a minimum of 100,000 square metres of laboratory, high-tech industrial and office space in the first phase of development as part of the Government’s UK Science and Innovation Investment Framework.

That will create around 5,000 jobs – more than doubling the current 4,500 workforce on the campus.

The company has now moved into offices at The Library – a project developed by Deeley Properties.

Duncan Rogers, of Goodman, said: “The vision for the campus is a key part of the Government’s UK Science and Innovation Investment Framework.

“Future investment at the campus will encompass fundamental scientific research and the development of property, facilities and local infrastructure.

“Goodman is tasked with implementing the vision and future development of the campus and occupying space in The Library, at the heart of the campus, allows us to build and maintain close relationships with our partners and customers across the entire campus.”

Harwell Science and Innovation Campus is home to around 130 organisations comprising large scale research organisations at the forefront of discovery, leading edge companies providing innovative products and services, plus a range of rapidly growing start-ups.

Pat Moroney, of Deeley Properties, said: “We recognised the potential of Harwell Campus, which is why we became involved here.

“We only have one office suite in The Library and three 2,000 sq ft offices nearby in The Terrace. These offices are available on both a freehold and leasehold basis

“The fact that this Joint Venture is moving in and will massively expand the site is further great news for the area and our other clients who have invested in our development.”
