JANET @ Harwell - Oxfordshire
With over 4,000 workers, more than 40% of whom have Phds, Harwell is one of the foremost science parks in the UK. Home to Diamond Light Source, a synchrotron that has attracted more than half a billion pounds worth of investment alone, Harwell is the original home of the UK Atomic Energy Authority and has a long history and tradition of high level research. JANET (formerly known as UKERNA – the UK Education Research Network Association) invited us to compete with two other development teams to provide them with a new headquarters facility. The new building uses an innovative natural ventilation system to augment the building’s heating and cooling systems. Largely open plan, the design allowed JANET to improve working relationships and structure their teams to respond to the nature of their business. As well as the “base build”, JANET commissioned Deeley Properties to procure all of their internal fit out – including their furniture. Our flexible working approach enabled us to provide this additional extra work with no disruption to JANET’s plans. On completion the development was sold to Royal Liver at a yield of 6%. Tim Marshall, the chief executive of UKERNA, said: “This is a very good move for the organisation. The quality of the offices are second to none – it will offer superb surroundings for all our staff.” |
