Work is underway on a new affordable homes scheme in Leamington.
The Deeley Group is working in partnership with Waterloo Housing Group and Warwick District Council to create 18 affordable homes on the site of the former Dairy Crest premises off Quarry Street and Old Milverton Road.
The existing buildings have already been demolished and the first foundations have been laid for the properties – four of which will be available to rent while a further 14 will be sold as shared ownership aimed at the local community.
Deeley Construction, part of the Deeley Group, is carrying out the work on the nine two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom properties, with the first homes expected to be ready by autumn 2018.
Pat Moroney, of the Deeley Group, said: “Leamington is crying out for more affordable homes so we are delighted to be working in partnership with Waterloo Housing Group to deliver this project.
“This is a former brownfield site which we are bringing back into use, providing much-needed homes for local people. This is the latest in a series of affordable housing schemes we have worked on in the area, as our agility and knowledge of the market mean we are able to provide exactly what is needed for the local area.”
Parking for each two-storey home will be provided at the front of each property.

“Their location in close proximity to both Leamington Spa and Warwick will make these properties an ideal choice for families and young people wanting to stay in or move into the area.”

A Coventry-based construction company has showcased its commitment to developing young people by joining an industry led initiative.
Deeley Construction has joined The 5% Club, which focuses on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students.
The 5% Club, initiated by Leo Quinn CEO of Balfour Beatty in 2013, is a movement of more than 275 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers.
Companies joining The 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report.
Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover a number of diverse industries, from engineering through to the legal sector.
Deeley Construction has a long-held tradition of growing its own workforce with almost 20 per cent of the company’s staff coming through the firm as an apprentice.
It is a proud record that includes managing director Martin Gallagher, who welcomed three new apprentices to the company in the past year.
Martin said: “The skills shortage in construction is one of the biggest issues facing our industry but here at Deeley Construction we have always seen apprenticeships as a great route to growing our own and the industry’s future workforce.
“I know only too well the benefits of being an apprentice having started my career as one. It gave me the opportunity to work my way up through the business to the point where I am now able to give others the same chance I had.
“It’s great that our new apprentices want to develop a career in construction and also highlights that there are many roles in our sector from being out on-site through to being based in the office.”
Deeley Construction currently supports three management trainees. Two other staff members are undertaking work sponsored learning programmes which accounts for nine per cent of the total workforce.
The company also offers one and two week placements to students from local schools and colleges – giving students a valuable insight into the construction industry.

The latest phase of a successful £9 million development in Kites Park in Princes Risborough is now full after a Midlands property company agreed the final pre-sale to an expanding fabric company.
Following the pre-sale of a 38,555 sq ft office and manufacturing facility to Ilecsys last summer, AC Lloyd has sold purpose-built 26,000 sq ft premises to Curtains & Linens.
The company, which is currently based in Woodham, near Aylesbury, is due to move into their new home in June once the work is completed by Coventry-based Deeley Construction.
Sanjeev Singh Sidhu, the Managing Director at Curtains & Linens which employs nine people, said this was an exciting new era in the business’s history.
“When we first set-up the business in 2008, we had a retail shop in Hounslow but when online shopping really took off, the business grew further and we moved into bigger premises in Aylesbury,” he said.
“We have got to the point of saturation where we can only hold a certain amount of products and we want to take the next step and grow the business again. We want to have more product lines to expand our product range.
“This is a new location for us which is in a pleasant, peaceful area rather than a big industrial estate within a large city or town which we prefer.
“AC Lloyd and Minns-Network Developments, their Development Managers, have helped us every step of the way. Since we are not buying a ready-made unit, it is a little more complicated and we couldn’t have done it without them.”
Mark Edwards, a director at AC Lloyd Holdings, said: “Kites Park has proved popular with a variety of businesses across different sectors, in view of its location and our ability to offer freehold design and build packages.
“Curtains & Linens is moving to their new home in a prime location which will mean the company can continue to process its orders for its existing customers as well as enabling them to expand their product range.

A Coventry charity cycle ride has raised funds to cover the costs of one week’s care for a child at Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice – and received an additional boost too.
More than 260 cyclists hit the roads in support of the hospice for the Starley Sportive cycle ride, organised by Deeley Group and Coventry Road Club.
The event initially raised £4,500, but the total was boosted by a further £2,500 due to private sponsorship from two riders, taking the overall amount to £7,000.
The costs to support one child for one week at Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice total £4,200, with care for a day for six children costing £3,600.
Marc Dwyer, challenge events officer at Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the beneficiary charity of the Deeley Group and Coventry Road Club Starley Sportive. The event was a huge success, with hundreds of cyclists enjoying the day and raising £7,000 for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.
“The babies and infants that come to Zoë’s Place have life-limiting or life threatening illnesses. They face challenges every day that many of us would take for granted. So it really is apt that people took on the challenge of a bike ride to help us.
“We extend our thanks to everyone involved, particularly the organisers and Deeley Group for hosting the event and of course all of the cyclists for taking part.
“We have many more events on our calendar this year, including a Coventry to Skegness Bike Ride, and these can be seen at www.zoes-place.org.uk.”
The Starley Sportive also recognised the contributions of cycling innovators James Starley and John Kemp Starley, who both worked and lived in Coventry.
It marked Coventry Road Club’s sixth sportive and followed on from the successful Deeley 80 Cycle Ride.
Ian Court, of the Coventry Road Club, said: “We’d like to thank all the riders that took part in this year’s Starley Sportive and helped to raise such a huge amount for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice.
“In addition to the ride, we also held a great prize draw, raising £275 and I would like to thank all the companies that donated prizes.
“The event is one of the most anticipated events on our calendar and has grown year-on-year, especially with joining forces with the Deeley Group, we hope to attract even more riders for next year’s event.”
The ride started from the Deeley Group’s headquarters in Coventry, before heading out into the Warwickshire countryside, with riders able to choose from a 59 mile and 30 mile route to take.
Edward Hudson, business development manager at the Deeley Group, added: “It was great event and brilliant day especially as we exceeded our funding target.
“We have been long-standing supporters of Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice at the Deeley Group. The charity does brilliant work and it is fantastic that we have been able to raise so much to support them.”
A Coventry construction company has been shortlisted for an industry award for its work at a local school.
Deeley Construction, which is part of the Deeley Group, is a finalist in the Refurbishment Project of the Year award category at the NFB Awards 2018.
The company has been shortlisted for the £5.8 million project it completed on behalf of Warwick School on the former Guy Nelson Hall, which is now known as Warwick Hall.
The new hall has already played host to a range of events and performances and has proved to be a hit with staff, pupils and the local community.
Simon Jones, foundation secretary for Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, said: “Deeley Construction was courteous and flexible in their approach to minimise disruption to the school. We were impressed by Deeley’s willingness to host site visits for pupils, teachers and governors who were eager to view progress.
“The hands-on approach from all of the employees – from site managers to directors – gave a personal touch which all at Warwick School appreciated. The building provides a focal point for our school campus, helping to shape future plans, and we are grateful for such a wonderful building.”
Winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony taking place at The Belfry Hotel & Resort on Tuesday, March 27.

A former World Championship cyclist has been gifted the number one jersey for an upcoming charity cycle ride.
David Miller will don the jersey for the The Starley Sportive in recognition of his achievements in cycling and contribution to the organisers, Coventry Road Club and Deeley Group.
The event – which takes place on Sunday, 18 February – will raise money to support Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice and will also celebrate cycling innovators James and John Kemp Starley, who both worked and lived in Coventry.
It features two routes to ride, one of 59 miles and the other 30 miles.
David competed in the Cyclo-Cross World Championships for the British Cycling Team and has been a member of the Coventry Road Club for more than 60 years – now holding the role of chairman and is also a life member of the club.
He worked for Deeley Group for 37 years, before retiring 10 years ago and took part in the World Championships during his first year with the company in 1972.
David worked as manager of Castledine Services, which was part of the Deeley Group, and was hired by current managing director Peter Deeley.
David said: “It’s a great honour to be given the number one jersey and be recognised for what I have done within cycling and for the Coventry Road Club itself and my long-service to Deeley.
“I remember when I first started working at the Deeley Group, they wanted me to start but I had tell them ‘I will start with you but I’m riding the World Championships in February and I’m certainly not going to miss that for anything!’
“We were at the 80th anniversary event for Deeley Group and I saw Peter there, I mentioned we were running our cycling ride to him and from there we decided to join forces and put on this great event.
“I still try to get out on my bike three or four times a week and I’m really looking forward to this event – it’s a great chance to raise funds for Zoë’s Place too, which is a very important cause.
“This is a ride to encourage people to get out on their bikes, with a marked out route and to enjoy cycling.
“The longer route, which is 58 miles, is quite testing, but people can definitely do it!”
Edward Hudson, Business Development Manager at Deeley Group, said: “It is fantastic to be able to recognise the contribution that David has made to cycling in the area and the many years of service he gave to our company.
“We’re all looking forward to the charity cycle ride, catching up with some familiar faces and raising money for Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice, who we have been long standing supporters of here at the Deeley Group.”
On-the-day entry will cost £15, with complimentary tea, coffee and cake for participants after the ride. Online entry is priced at £12 and closes on Sunday, February 11.
